Heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium and aluminum can have a number of harmful effect on the body. As they relate to minerals, they can tie up binding sites on cells so essential minerals can't get in. This is like putting a broken key into a lock. It not only doesn't open the door but prevents a good key from being used. An example of this would be in the case of mercury and cadmium where both of these toxic metals prevent the body from absorbing and utilizing zinc.
Metals that are Tested
Test Results
Heavy Metal Testing
- Copper (Cu)
- Zinc (Zn)
- Cadmium (Cd)
- Lead (Pb)
- Mercury (Hg)
- Nickel (Ni)
A heavy metal test will show high, medium, or low levels of toxic metals in the body and allow the clinician to utilize this information as a powerful tool in analyzing one's health status and formulating nutritional recommendations. Phone to book your appointment today!
Deficiencies due to heavy metal toxicity
The resulting symptoms of a zinc deficiency such as loss of appetite, smell and taste and prostate problems would ensue. This is why a person who quits cigarettes often has an increase in appetite even without taking zinc supplements, with less cadmium coming in from the cigarettes, more zinc can get to the cells.
Also by taking the biological spaces of the essential minerals, heavy metals, in particular mercury, can create simultaneously a toxic accumulation of essential minerals. The body receives everyday essential minerals through the food, unable to be absorbed leading to an accumulation and overburden of these minerals.
High toxic accumulation of copper for example can contribute to Parkinson's disease, anaemia, allergies, hair loss, appetite disturbance, hyperactivity, low thyroid activity, headaches, skin conditions, constipation, learning disabilities, and/or depression.
